The United States has seen a troubling rise in both suicide and drug overdose rates. Suicide rates have increased by roughly 35% since 2000, while overdose deaths have surged more than fourfold, reaching record highs in recent years. Together, these trends reflect growing public health crises tied to mental health challenges, addiction, and social and economic stressors.

Locally, 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast is reminding the community that help is always available. The nonprofit operates a 24/7 helpline staffed by trained responders who provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and immediate connections to mental health resources. Assistance is available by phone, text, or online chat.

“We want our community to know that we are here for them during their most challenging times,” said Ty Barnes, president and CEO of 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast. “Our team provides not just information, but comfort and support. Even if someone is simply feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or needs to talk — we are here.”

Beyond serving as the region’s trusted helpline, 211 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast is the designated frontline responder for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in this area. The organization provides direct support for people experiencing suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, or other urgent mental health needs.
