In a collaboration blending arts, culture and animal adoption, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County and Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League are partnering during MOSAIC 2026 to encourage the adoption of adult black cats throughout the month of May.

As part of the initiative, Peggy Adams will waive adoption fees for adult black cats — including tortoiseshell and tuxedo cats — from May 1 through May 31 during regular adoption hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. A $20 rabies tag fee will still apply for Palm Beach County residents.

The campaign is inspired by “Le Chat,”

the signature artwork series created by Palm Beach County artist George Bayer for MOSAIC 2026, the countywide Month of Shows, Art, Ideas and Culture celebration.

According to organizers, Bayer originally conceived the whimsical cat-themed series without a real-life feline muse. That changed when a stray gray tuxedo cat found its way into the lives of Bayer and his wife. The cat, now named Prince, became both a family companion and creative inspiration behind the evolving “Le Chat” collection.

Organizers say the adoption initiative reflects the themes of companionship, creativity and connection that define Bayer’s artwork and this year’s MOSAIC campaign.

MOSAIC 2026 features Bayer’s colorful “creative cats” throughout promotional artwork and on collectible lapel pins available at participating cultural venues across Palm Beach County.

In addition to adoptable cats at Peggy Adams, visitors may also find MOSAIC-themed “Le Chat” artwork, collectible lapel pins and “Paws-port” collectibles tied to the promotion.

No appointments are required for adoptions.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is located in West Palm Beach and serves as one of the region’s largest animal welfare organizations.
