Delray Beach Library brings back Very Berry Bake-Off

The Delray Beach Public Library is inviting residents with a sweet tooth to join in the return of its popular Very Berry Bake-Off on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m., located at 100 West Atlantic Avenue.

Now in its second year, the event has quickly become a community favorite. Last year’s competition went “coconut crazy,” drawing dozens of bakers and a full house of tasters. This year, the spotlight is on berries of every kind, from blueberries and raspberries to strawberries and blackberries. Bakers are encouraged to showcase their creativity with pies, cakes, bars, crumbles, muffins, scones, or any dessert that lets berries take center stage.

The contest is open to amateur bakers, with prizes awarded to the top three entries. Winners will receive a $100 City Oyster gift card for first place, a $50 City Oyster gift card for second, and a gift basket from the Delray Beach Historical Society for third. In addition, the audience will decide a People’s Choice Award, ensuring plenty of enthusiasm from the crowd.

Judging will be conducted by a panel of community leaders and culinary experts, including Chef Jordan Stilley of City Oyster, Winnie Duggans Edwards of the Delray Beach Historical Society, Joycelyn Patrick, president of the library’s board, and Christina Morrison, a commercial realtor and property consultant.

Adding to the excitement, Chef from Space of Mind will deliver a live cooking demonstration, giving attendees new ideas for their own kitchens before the sampling begins. Guests will also enjoy giveaways, food samples, and the chance to taste every entry before casting their votes.
