Kravis Center, Palm Beach County Food Bank to host pasta-packing on Hunger Action Day

The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and the Palm Beach County Food Bank are inviting the community to help fight hunger during a pasta-packing marathon on Hunger Action Day, Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The event, part of the Kravis Center's Pack to Give Back initiative, will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Gimelstob Ballroom at the Kravis Center, 701 Okeechobee Blvd. Volunteers will work together to package pasta that will be distributed to nearly 200 food pantries, soup kitchens and schools throughout Palm Beach County.

Participants will scoop pasta, weigh portions, seal bags, label them and pack meals for families experiencing food insecurity.

The effort comes as food insecurity continues to affect thousands of local residents. According to the Palm Beach County Food Bank, one in eight people in Palm Beach County struggles to put food on the table, while one in six children experiences hunger.

Meals packed during the event will support the Food Bank's Childhood Hunger initiatives, including its School Pantry Program and Weekend Meal Program. Those programs partner with schools, after-school programs and child-focused community organizations across the county to provide nutritious food to children and families during the school year, summer months and throughout the year.

Three volunteer shifts are available:

• 9 to 11:30 a.m.

• Noon to 2:30 p.m.

• 3 to 5 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, although advance registration is required.

Organizers say the event provides an opportunity for residents to give back to families in need, earn community service hours and participate in a hands-on effort to help combat hunger across Palm Beach County.
