Pennsylvania-born vocalist Matthew Paul Miller is better known by the stage name Matisyahu and for his career as a rapper with reggae and alternative rock undertones. For his forthcoming shows at the Kravis Center, he displays a softer side in his acoustic duo with guitarist Adam Weinberg.
Matisyahu’s 2004 debut, “Shake Off the Dust … Arise,” featured the hit single “King Without a Crown,” springboarding him to stardom. More than a dozen studio, live and remix albums and EPs have followed, all while he became a favorite artist at multigenre festivals worldwide.
Perhaps having matured from the reported hijinks of his youth, the 43-year-old with the Hebrew stage name is more restrained with his latest recording than on its predecessors. The introspective “Matisyahu” is rife with lush minimalism, which should suit the acoustic show on the Kravis Center’s intimate Rinker Playhouse side stage.
