Actress Meryl Streep will narrate the American Humane documentary “Escape From Extinction Rewilding,” the sequel to 2020’s “Escape From Extinction.”
Directed and produced by Matthew Brady of MRB Productions, “Rewilding” will be released in more than 100 theaters Sept. 27 through distributor Joe Garel of Western Film Services.
The documentary highlights how rewilding helps make conservation efforts effective and sustainable. Rewilding aims to restore and safeguard natural ecosystems by letting them revert to their wild state. This strategy includes reintroducing native species, particularly apex predators and keystone species, to re-establish ecological balance and promote biodiversity.
The documentary “not only brings the significance of rewilding to light, but also highlights that you can’t protect what you don't love, and you can’t love what you don’t know,” says American Humane President and CEO Robin Ganzert, an executive producer of the film. “At American Humane, we are profoundly thankful to Meryl for lending her voice to this critical story of survival, inspiring countless others to become advocates for animal welfare.”
Streep’s five-decade career includes a record 21 Academy Award nominations with three wins and 32 Golden Globe nominations with eight wins. Beyond her acting, she has been involved in efforts to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, has supported organizations such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, and has worked with New Jersey lawmakers on legislation to ban the sale, purchase or possession of ivory and rhinoceros horn.
American Humane is the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare and works to ensure the humane treatment of over 1 billion animals worldwide each year.
