Morikami offers Ikebana flower arrangement classes

Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging, emphasizes balance, harmony and simplicity.

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens will host a series of Ikebana flower arrangement classes on Tuesdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26, offering participants an opportunity to explore a centuries-old Japanese art form.

The intermediate level classes will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Advance registration is required. The cost is $90 for the series, with a discounted rate of $80 for Morikami members.

Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging, emphasizes balance, harmony and simplicity. The sessions will focus on the Sogetsu School, a contemporary approach that highlights creativity and individuality, encouraging participants to create arrangements using a wide range of materials and styles.

Students will learn the foundational principles of Sogetsu ikebana and will create their own arrangements each week to take home. The intermediate class is designed for those with prior experience and requires instructor approval before enrollment.
