Okeeheelee Nature Center teaches about birds and reptiles in July

Okeeheelee Nature Center, west of West Palm Beach, consists of 90 acres of flat woods and wetlands with trails, hands-on exhibits, animal encounters and a gift shop.

“Birding 101” stars birds of South Florida. For participants 15 and older, the event features a discussion on the characteristics of birds and a walk to discover them in person. It takes place July 9 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Okeeheelee offers beginners and advanced archery. The beginners program teaches the basics and provides equipment. Advanced archery, available to those who have taken the beginners course, focuses on aim and precision. Archery for beginners takes place July 15 from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and advanced archery takes place July 27 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

“Remarkable Reptiles” is a reptile course with a twist. The program takes place on World Snake Day, July 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. and celebrates reptiles for all their sometimes misunderstood greatness. Reptile ambassadors at the event include a snake with its meal.

“ONC Behind the Scenes” includes a tour of the outdoor animals’ homes at Okeeheelee. This family-friendly event is July 23 from 10 to 11 a.m.

The price for each event ranges from $3 to $10 per person. Reservations are required, and spots are limited. Go here to register.
