Royal Palm Beach will honor the Allman Brothers Band when its Food Truck Expo and Concert series continues Friday, Oct. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Commons Park, 11600 Poinciana Blvd.

The Food Truck Expo and Concert series is a free program hosted by the village Parks and Recreation Department that pairs a rotating lineup of food trucks with a themed concert most Friday evenings throughout the year. Past installments have paid tribute to Santana, ABBA, Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac, presented Motown and Earth, Wind & Fire revues, and offered original touring acts. Admission to the park is free.

October’s concert turns the spotlight to the Allman Brothers Band, a Macon, Georgia, group that helped define Southern rock in the early 1970s behind the twin-guitar interplay of Duane Allman and Dickey Betts and the soulful vocals of Gregg Allman. Formed in 1969, the band built its reputation on extended, improvisational live performances and landmark albums such as “At Fillmore East” and “Eat a Peach” before Duane Allman’s death in a 1971 motorcycle accident. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

The band played its final concert in October 2014 at New York’s Beacon Theatre, closing out a run that inspired tribute acts across the country to keep alive songs including “Whipping Post,” “Midnight Rider” and “Ramblin’ Man.”

More information on the Food Truck Expo and Concert series, including dates and performers, is available through the Royal Palm Beach Parks and Recreation Department.
