The Save Our Planet-Recycle 5K, a low-cost event focused on environmental sustainability, is taking place Saturday, July 12, at John Prince Park, 2700 Sixth Ave. S in Lake Worth, at 7:30 a.m., with pre-race festivities starting at 6:30.
What sets this 5K apart is its commitment to reducing waste. Instead of producing new shirts and medals, the event repurposes items from races held since 2023. Participants select their finisher medals and shirts from a wide assortment available at packet pickup and the finish line. The event thus reduces landfill waste, and organizers pass the savings to participants. Early registration was just $25, rising to $35 by race day.
Registrants also receive a personalized race bib and a race completion certificate. Awards will go to the top three runners overall and in the Masters, Senior Masters, and age group categories, set in five-year increments for men and women.
The course winds through the scenic trails of John Prince Park. After the run, DJ Petey hosts music and dancing at 8:20 a.m., and the awards ceremony is at 8:35.
The race schedule:
· 6:15 — Registration and packet pickup.
· 6:30 — Music and festivities.
· 7:25 — Announcements and national anthem.
· 7:30 — Race start.
· 8:20 — Post-race dancing.
· 8:35 — Awards ceremony.
