Residents at Wellington Bay recently showcased their artistic talents during the community’s annual Resident Art Show, an event that highlighted creativity, lifelong learning and the vibrant lifestyle enjoyed by seniors at the Wellington retirement community.

Held May 3, the exhibition featured 44 works of art created by 25 resident artists, transforming the community into a gallery filled with a wide variety of artistic expression.

The collection showcased paintings, drawings, crafts, jewelry, textiles, sculptures and photography. The exhibition also included embroidery and lace tatting work created by a resident of the community’s Lisbet Assisted Living neighborhood.

"We are grateful to all our resident artists who shared their extraordinary talents with us for this year's show," says Jay Mikosch, executive campus director at Wellington Bay. "Art is vital for senior citizens because it promotes healthy aging by stimulating cognitive function, reducing stress and fighting loneliness."

Many of the featured pieces were created through resident-led clubs and creative programs such as Wellington Bay's Diamond Art Club and Knitting Club.

A popular feature of the event was the photography contest. Open to all residents, the contest encourages participants to submit their favorite images for consideration. Five winning photographs were selected and have been installed in Wellington Bay’s main lobby, where they will remain on display throughout the year.

Wellington Bay offers independent living, assisted living, respite care and advanced memory care through its on-site Lisbet Health Center.  For more information, visit Wellington Bay.
