Wellington Florist played a central role in a countywide show of kindness this fall, joining a national effort that used flowers to brighten the day for thousands of residents.

In October, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County partnered with Wellington Florist to participate in Petal It Forward, a “random acts of kindness” initiative organized each year by the Society of American Florists. The program asks florists across the country to hand out two flowers at a time, one for the recipient to keep and one to give away.

“This is our second year participating in Petal It Forward, and it’s one of our favorite days of the year,” says Julia Murphy, Chief Advancement Officer for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County. “We’re honored to take part in a national movement that shows how a simple act of kindness can brighten someone’s day.”

Wellington Florist supplied roughly 5,000 roses for the effort, which were distributed by Habitat staff, volunteers, and community partners at locations throughout the county, including the Riviera Beach VA Hospital, a local fire station, The Lord’s Place, Royal Poinciana Plaza, and all Habitat ReStores.

Since 1991, Wellington Florist has evolved from a local storefront into a full countywide floral operation, staffed by a 25-member crew and known for its seven-day guarantee and reliable delivery throughout Palm Beach County.

“Petal It Forward is one of the most heartwarming initiatives we take part in each year,” said J.P. Varvarigos, owner of Wellington Florist. “It’s incredible to see how a single flower can spark connection, spread kindness, and brighten someone’s day.”

Petal It Forward launched nationally in 2015. The Society of American Florists cites research from the University of North Florida indicating that flowers in the home can help reduce stress and increase happiness.
