Wellington hosts Hurricane and Severe Weather Expo ahead of storm season

As hurricane season approaches, local officials are encouraging residents to prepare early by attending the Village of Wellington’s upcoming Hurricane and Severe Weather Expo, a free community event designed to provide essential information and resources.

The expo will take place Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Mall at Wellington Green. The event will bring together emergency responders, public safety officials and local experts to help residents better understand how to prepare for and respond to severe weather.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to safeguard their homes, create emergency plans, access reliable information during storms and recover more effectively in the aftermath. Organizers say the goal is to equip the community with practical tools that can make a meaningful difference during hurricane season.

A featured highlight of the event will be a special presentation at noon by Glenn Glazer, a two-time Emmy Award–winning meteorologist with WPBF 25 News. Glazer will share expert insights, real-world advice and the latest updates to help residents stay informed and prepared.

The event will also include a family-friendly component, with a free kids activity zone offering games, character photo opportunities and a meet-and-greet with Sebastian the Ibis, the University of Miami’s mascot.

In addition, attendees can enter a free raffle for a chance to win a Champion Power Equipment 5300/4250-watt generator, donated by the mall.

Village officials say the expo reflects Wellington’s ongoing commitment to community safety and preparedness, particularly as South Florida enters the most active months of hurricane season.

The Hurricane and Severe Weather Expo is free and open to the public. For more information, visit wellingtonfl.gov/HurricaneExpo.
