Wellington to mark 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks

The Village of Wellington invites the community to gather Friday, Sept. 11, for a day of remembrance honoring those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the families forever affected and the first responders whose courage helped define that day 25 years ago.

The observance will begin at 8:46 a.m., the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The Village Council and community partners will lead a remembrance ceremony open to all at the Wellington Amphitheater and Patriot Memorial at 12100 Forest Hill Blvd.

The program will include reflections from the Village Council, the laying of a wreath and a moment of silence. A light breakfast will be provided.

A lunch and keynote presentation by Lt. Col. Todd Beer, who flew President George W. Bush on Air Force One on 9/11, will begin at 11 a.m. in the Grande Ballroom at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 Forest Hill Blvd. 

Advance registration is required, and seating is limited. Registration is expected to open to the public soon.
