The free community celebration, “Wastin’ Away on the Waterfront,” will feature live music, island-inspired festivities and a tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter just days before the second anniversary of his death.

Headlining will be the Parrot Head Party Band, led by Greg Pitts, who has brought Buffett’s laid-back, tropical sound to audiences for more than two decades. The performance will include classics such as “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” offering a sing-along for fans of all ages.

“Jimmy Buffett’s music has always felt like home in West Palm Beach,” Mayor Keith A. James said. “His songs evoke sunshine, community and a vibrant spirit that mirrors the essence of our city. We’re proud to celebrate his legacy each year with an event that brings people together in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach.”

The evening will feature a tropical atmosphere with island-style food and drinks, including a margarita bar with margarita flights and free cheeseburgers for 100 attendees — available to early arrivals and at special moments. Attendees can enjoy limbo and trivia contests with festive prizes, while nonprofit groups such as Parrotheads for the Palm Beaches and Manatee Lagoon will be there to promote community involvement.

Angela Poco, the marketing and community events manager for the city, noted the lasting impact of Buffett’s music on the community. “Few artists have brought people together and lifted spirits the way Jimmy Buffett did, and we are excited to once again honor his legacy. This annual tribute is designed to unite the community with the same joy and sense of togetherness that his music inspires.”

Buffett, who was a part-time Palm Beach County resident, is remembered fondly across South Florida. West Palm Beach was among the first cities to establish an annual tribute event in his honor.
