Workshops and Lectures at the Norton Museum of Art

The Norton Museum of Art continues its commitment to engaging the community through art and education with a diverse lineup of workshops, lectures and hands-on programs over the next week and throughout April.

Family Studio: The Art of Adornment

• Saturdays, April 12, 19 and 26

• Sessions: 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and 1 to 2:20 p.m.

• Children and their families are invited to explore wearable art. Participants create adornments inspired by artwork in the museum. No registration is required.

Family Autism Art Workshop

• Saturday, April 13

• Sessions: 1 to 2 p.m. (kindergarten to sixth grade), 3 to 4 p.m. (seventh to 12th grade)

• Designed to be accessible for all, this workshop offers a welcoming environment for children with autism and their families. Activities include a guided gallery experience and an art-making session. The program provides free museum admission and autism support. Staffers are trained to facilitate these sessions.

Adult Sketch Class with Shannon Walker

• Sunday, April 14, 1 to 3 p.m.

• Join teaching artist Shannon Walker for an afternoon of drawing in the galleries. Participants are guided to develop sketching skills while drawing inspiration from the museum’s works.

• Details: $30 general admission, $15 museum members. Bring your own sketchbook (max 11 by 14 inches) and pencils only.

Home School Tour: Artists’ Jewelry

• Wednesday, April 17, 1 to 3 p.m.

• Kindergartners through 12th-graders tour the exhibition “Artists’ Jewelry: From Cubism to Pop,” exploring how artists turn their talents to jewelry design. The session includes an art-making activity.Details: Free with museum admission. Space is limited. Register at www.norton.org/schools.

Teen Collective Art Workshop

• Thursday, April 18, 6 to 8 p.m.

• This workshop invites teens to engage with contemporary art and experiment with creative techniques in a relaxed, collaborative environment.

World Tai Chi and Qigong Day

• Saturday, April 26, 9 to 11 a.m., Norton Lawn (Jefferson Road and South Olive Avenue)

Mindful Moments at the Norton

• Monday, April 28, noon

• Led by mindfulness educator Jodi Sypher, this guided meditation uses a work of art as a focal point to deepen awareness and promote relaxation.
