Okeeheelee Nature Center is offering a variety of programs in July that combine outdoor recreation with opportunities to learn about Florida's wildlife and natural habitats.
Located within Okeeheelee Park, the nature center is home to native Florida reptiles, birds of prey and other animal ambassadors. Interactive exhibits and wooded trails make it a favorite destination.
Archery for Beginners
Saturday, July 11, 10-11:30 a.m.; ages 8 and up; $10
Learn the fundamentals of archery from USA Archery-certified instructors. Participants will practice proper safety techniques and shooting skills using equipment provided by the nature center.
Palm Beach Pack & Paddle Club
Saturday, July 11, 2-4 p.m.; all ages; free
Meet members of the Palm Beach Pack & Paddle Club for an afternoon of guest speakers and discussions covering nature, conservation and outdoor recreation throughout Palm Beach County.
ONC Visits the Main Library: Ecosystem Engineers
Wednesday, July 15, 2-2:45 p.m.; all ages; free
Discover how Florida's wildlife helps shape natural habitats during this interactive program featuring live animal ambassadors at the Main Library.
ONC Visits the Royal Palm Beach Library: Burrow Buddies
Tuesday, July 21, 2:30-3:15 p.m.; all ages; free
Learn about the animals that share underground homes and why burrows play an important role in Florida's ecosystems during this hands-on library program featuring live animal ambassadors.
Palm Beach County Woodturners
Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m.-noon; all ages; free
Watch skilled woodturners demonstrate their craft while learning about woodworking tools and techniques. Beginners and experienced woodworkers are welcome.
Superstars of the Night
Tuesday, July 28, 7:30-9 p.m.; ages 8 and up; $5
Take a nighttime hike in search of nocturnal wildlife while learning about the night sky with special guests from the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches.
Located at 7715 Forest Hill Blvd. in Okeeheelee Park, west of West Palm Beach, Okeeheelee Nature Center is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and offers year-round environmental education programs for visitors of all ages.
Advance registration is needed for most programs and can be completed online at discover.pbc.gov under "Online Services" or go to the Nature Center Hub and click on the Okeeheelee Nature Center.
