The Green Cay Nature Center hosts an educational program focused on invasive species on Saturday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m., offering participants an opportunity to learn about one of Florida’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Titled “Reptiles & Amphibians: Protecting the Earth from Invasives,” the program is open to all ages and costs $5 per participant. The session is timed in recognition of Earth Day and will explore the growing impact of non-native reptiles and amphibians across the state.
Florida has become home to a wide range of invasive species, including Burmese pythons and Cuban tree frogs, which have established populations in local ecosystems. Program organizers say these species pose significant threats to native wildlife by disrupting food chains, competing for resources and altering natural habitats.
During the program, participants will learn how invasive species are introduced, why they are able to thrive in Florida’s climate and the broader environmental consequences. The session will also focus on practical steps individuals can take to help prevent the introduction of additional non-native species into the wild.
Advance reservations are required to attend the program. Click here to register.
Green Cay Nature Center is located at 12800 Hagen Ranch Road, west of Boynton Beach.
