Young creatives with an interest in Japanese culture will have the chance to explore the ancient art of shodō at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens during a special calligraphy workshop Saturday, July 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the museum’s Oki Education Center.
Taught at an introductory level, the workshop offers third- to 12th-graders a hands-on opportunity to learn the basics of Japanese calligraphy from Akiko Soejima, a Japanese native who has taught at Morikami since 2017. With a background in both shodō and origami, Soejima brings years of training and cultural expertise to her teaching.
Children younger than third-graders may participate with prior approval. Contact the education program coordinator at 561-233-1367.
Registration for the class is $30, including a $5 materials fee. Museum admission is not included.
For more information or to register, visit morikami.org, or call 561-233-1367. The Morikami is at 4000 Morikami Park Road in Delray Beach.
