The new Flagship Premium Cinemas in Wellington offers more than a place to watch the latest films. Company representatives say the theater is designed to be a space where the community can gather while enjoying a premium moviegoing experience at an affordable price.

Located at 13881 Wellington Trace, the former Movies at Wellington cinema was renovated into a modern entertainment destination featuring eight screens, heated recliners, upgraded sound and projection technology, self-serve concessions, and unlimited same-day drink and popcorn refills. Flagship opened June 19.

For Bill Moulton, the director of online sales for Flagship, the theater’s greatest feature isn’t found in its technology, but in the shared experience when people gather to enjoy a film together.

“Just think of the memories,” Moulton says. “Everyone has fond memories of going to the movies as a child. To see a great movie on a big screen is something you don’t forget. I still have memories of seeing movies with my parents, waiting in long lines to get into certain films. Every generation has a movie that was iconic to them, and people cherish those memories.”

That sense of nostalgia has been evident throughout the theater’s transformation.

During construction, locals frequently stopped by to peek inside and share memories of Movies at Wellington, which served as the setting for family outings, first dates and childhood experiences.

“They all talk about their experience at their local neighborhood cinema,” Moulton says. “They had such a beautiful experience when they were younger, and they were so excited about bringing that experience to their children.”

Those conversations confirmed that the theater was more than just a vacant building waiting for a new tenant. It really reinforces the fact that this space needed a theater,” he says. “I think we’re the right company to fill it.”

Moulton says Wellington has proved to be ideal for Flagship.

“Our company loves to take old buildings and make them new again,” he says. “The community has been more welcoming than we could have possibly imagined, and we’re so thankful.”

While streaming services have changed how people consume entertainment, Moulton believes that movie theaters continue to offer something special.

“It’s a sensory experience that you can’t get at home,” he says. “It’s the smell of the popcorn, the feel of the chairs, the flickering light on the screen. Even if you have a home theater, it’s still not the same.”

The company has also focused on creating what Moulton describes as a “luxury affordable experience.” Self-serve popcorn and fountain drink stations offer unlimited same-day refills, while loyalty rewards and promotions help families save money.

“We know what it costs to bring a family to a theater,” Moulton says. “We’re doing our best to make it affordable while still providing a luxury experience.”

One of the theater’s most popular features is the self-serve popcorn station, where people can customize their snacks and return for refills throughout the day.

“It gives people freedom to create their own taste,” Moulton says. “You can use as much butter or salt as you want. Kids absolutely love it. They feel empowered. It’s really fun to watch.”

Looking ahead, Moulton hopes the theater becomes an extension of the community itself.

“We want to make it a community gathering place,” he says. “We’re here to provide a quality entertainment experience and be that place where people can come together and make memories.”
