Okeeheelee Nature Center invites the community to explore wildlife in June

The Okeeheelee Nature Center (ONC) is offering a robust schedule of programs throughout June, many of which are free and open to all ages. Programs that require reservations can be booked at www.pbcparks.com under “Online Services.”
Held weekly and requiring no reservations:
Live Animal Feeding
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 3:30 p.m.
Learn about Florida’s native wildlife while watching the staff feed the resident turtles, snakes and other animals.
Alligator Feeding
Saturdays, 1 p.m.
Watch the center’s resident alligator be fed and learn how these apex predators play a vital role in Florida’s ecosystem.
Special June Programs
ONC Visits the Library: Crocodiles and Alligators
Tuesday, June 3, 3 to 3:45 p.m.; Wellington Library; free
Learn the differences between crocodiles and alligators in this interactive program featuring a live baby alligator. Pre-registration is required by calling the library at 561-790-6070.
Florida Trail Association Monthly Meeting
Saturday, June 7, 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Join the Loxahatchee Chapter of the Florida Trail Association for its monthly gathering, which includes guest speakers and refreshments. No registration needed.
South Florida Herpetological Society Adoption Event
Saturday, June 14, 1:30 to 4 p.m.
Meet and potentially adopt reptiles at this educational, family-friendly event.
Family Owl Prowl
Tuesday, June 17, 7:30 to 9 p.m.; reservations required
Explore the Pine Flatwoods after sunset on this guided nighttime adventure. Meet nocturnal animals and search for owls and other creatures under the moonlight.
Archery for Beginners
Friday, June 20, 10 to 11:30 a.m.; ages 8 and up; $10
Learn the fundamentals of archery with USA Archery-certified instructors. All equipment is provided. Space is limited.
Palm Beach County Woodturners Monthly Meeting
Saturday, June 28, 9 a.m. to noon
This hands-on program introduces people to woodturning. All skill levels are welcome to learn about techniques and tools.
Okeeheelee Nature Center is a year-round resource offering boardwalks, birdwatching platforms and indoor exhibits in addition to structured programs. Nestled within Okeeheelee Park, ONC is at 7715 Forest Hill Blvd., just west of West Palm Beach.
