As spring settles across South Florida, Riverbend Park is offering educational and outdoor programs aimed at connecting residents with the region’s natural landscapes, native wildlife and ecological history.

Among the highlights is “Turtle Talk: Protecting Our Shelled Friends,” scheduled for Thursday, April 16, from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at the Acreage Library. The free, all-ages program offers attendees the chance to meet native turtle and tortoise ambassadors, including the gopher tortoise and Florida box turtle.

Park educators will share insights into the role these species play in local ecosystems and the conservation efforts aimed at protecting them. The program is presented in recognition of World Turtle Day and does not require advance registration.

For those looking to explore the park firsthand, the “Secret Life of Plants Walk: The Roots of Florida” will take place Saturday, April 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Designed for ages 5 and older, the $5 guided walk introduces participants to South Florida’s native plant species, including wildflowers, trees and shrubs.

Through hands-on learning and guided discussion, attendees will develop plant identification skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the ecological importance of native vegetation. The program also explores plant structure and the diverse species that thrive in Florida’s unique environment.

Most Riverbend Park programs run approximately 90 minutes and require advance online registration through pbcparks.com under the “Register/Pay for Program” section. Walk-in registration is not available for reserved activities.

Participants are required to complete a program participation form prior to each event, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Park officials recommend bringing water, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Located at 9060 Indiantown Road, Riverbend Park’s expanding calendar reflects its ongoing mission to provide accessible environmental education and outdoor recreation opportunities while preserving the area’s natural and cultural resources.
