Wellington Bay recently welcomed some of the top culinary talent from Liberty Senior Living communities across the Southeast as it hosted the Liberty Senior Living "Top Chef" Regional Competition, showcasing the elevated dining experiences available in today's luxury senior living communities.
Held on June 24, the regional competition brought together chefs from Wellington Bay, The Templeton of Cary in North Carolina and The Carlisle in Palm Beach for a high-stakes
culinary showdown featuring scratch-made cuisine designed specifically for senior residents.
The Carlisle claimed the regional title and will advance to host the Liberty Senior Living Championship on Aug. 6, where finalists from regional competitions will compete for the $5,000 grand prize.
Wellington Bay Executive Chef Joshua Crane earned runner-up honors with two inventive dishes that highlighted both creativity and nutrition.
For his savory course, Crane presented a modern interpretation of the Mumbai street food classic Pani Puri, featuring a crisp semolina shell filled with cumin-and coriander-infused black bean purée, tuna tartare, corn mousse, lime zest and pumpkin seed dust. The dish was finished with a butternut squash and roasted pepper sofrito and accompanied by edible flowers, micro cilantro salad and a cilantro-honey dressing served in a pipette.

Chef Crane's dessert featured a dark chocolate and avocado mousse infused with cardamom and sweetened with Mayan honey. Layered with macadamia nut crumble and cacao nibs inside a crisp chocolate shell molded in the shape of a classic peanut butter cup, the dessert demonstrated both technical precision and nutritional innovation.
The Liberty Senior Living "Top Chef" competition was created to challenge common misconceptions about dining in senior living communities by emphasizing high-quality, scratch-made cuisine.
A panel of judges composed of community leaders, resident dining committee members and guest culinary professionals evaluated each team's dishes during the regional competition.
"We are thrilled to have hosted such an extraordinary showcase of culinary talent here at Wellington Bay," says Jay Mikosch, executive campus director of Wellington Bay. "We extend our warmest congratulations to The Carlisle on their well-deserved victory. While the competition was fierce, I could not be more proud of Chef Joshua Crane and our entire culinary team."
