A 17-year-old Wellington resident is proving that meaningful civic leadership has no age requirement. Through his student-led initiative, Driven by the Promise, Dariyan Younessi is mobilizing community support for the Promise Fund, a South Florida nonprofit focused on improving survivorship and expanding access to care for women diagnosed with breast and cervical cancer.

The Promise Fund provides guided support and access to screenings, early detection and treatment for all women, with a particular focus on those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Younessi's commitment to the cause stems from personal experience. His grandmother passed away from breast cancer before he had the opportunity to meet her, a loss that has shaped his determination to help others avoid similar heartbreak.

"I never had the chance to meet my grandmother because she passed away from breast cancer, and I don't want anyone else to experience that kind of loss," Younessi says. "My family has been personally affected by cancer, and Driven by the Promise was created to turn that experience into action. I believe young people don't have to wait to lead, raise awareness, and make an impact."

Driven by the Promise has partnered with Heritage Auctions and sold a rare piece of motorcycle history: Serial No. 1 of the Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide RR — which brought $500,000 at auction. One of only 131 ever manufactured, this unique motorcycle was generously donated by the Younessi family, with 100 percent of proceeds directed to the Promise Fund.

Founded in 2018 by Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, the Promise Fund has provided over 20,000 cancer screenings and diagnostic services and helped 271 women diagnosed with cancer navigate their treatment in Palm Beach, Broward and Martin counties.

"We are profoundly grateful and honored to channel the spirit of this iconic machine into driving lifesaving impact for women throughout our community," Brinker said of the Younessi family's donation.
