Cleveland Clinic has unveiled plans to enhance its presence in West Palm Beach by constructing a hospital and expanding its outpatient services.
Announced Dec. 19, the hospital will feature approximately 150 inpatient beds, an emergency department, a medical office building and an ambulatory surgery center. This facility will be the first nonprofit research hospital in West Palm Beach and the first new hospital in the downtown area in over a century.
“Palm Beach County has long been an area where we have planned to grow to enhance care for the community,” said Dr. Tom Mihaljevic, the CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic. “Our expansion plan will transform care for the community.”
In addition to the new hospital, Cleveland Clinic plans to lease 120,000 square feet at 15 CityPlace, nearly quadrupling its outpatient space in West Palm Beach and offering such services as chemotherapy and infusions, a concierge medicine program, imaging, endoscopy, and outpatient surgery.
Dr. Conor P. Delaney, the president of Cleveland Clinic’s Florida market, said: “A broad range of specialties will be provided in the new hospital with the flexibility to adapt and add specialty care as the needs of the Palm Beach community evolve. Priority specialties will include heart, vascular and thoracic care, digestive disease care, neurological care, and cancer care.”
Cleveland Clinic has launched a fundraising campaign in Palm Beach County to support its expansion. The health system has served the West Palm Beach area for over 15 years, with facilities in CityPlace, Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington.
As the project progresses, further details, including timelines and specific service offerings, are expected to be released.
