Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens will offer two workshops on the Japanese art of kokedama on July 25, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Kokedama is the Japanese practice of growing plants in a moss-covered ball of soil wrapped with string. The technique brings an organic and natural touch to planting orchids, succulents, and other ornamental plants. Participants will learn how to create kokedama and make three moss balls.
The workshop costs $65, and advance registration is required.
Located on a 200-acre park, Morikami Museum features architecture inspired by traditional Japanese design. The facility includes three exhibition galleries, a 226-seat theater, an authentic tea house with viewing gallery, classrooms, a museum store, the Cornell Cafe, and lakeside terraces.

The museum's collections contain more than 7,000 Japanese art objects and artifacts, including a 500-piece collection of tea ceremony items, over 200 textile pieces, and fine art acquisitions. The surrounding 16 acres feature Japanese gardens with strolling paths, resting areas, a bonsai collection, and lakes.
Museum admission is free for members and children five and under. Adults pay $18, seniors and military personnel with ID pay $16, students with ID pay $14, and children ages 6-17 pay $12. Children under fifteen must be accompanied by an adult.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last admission ticket sold at 4:30 p.m.
