Okeeheelee Nature Center January events including Wellington Library visit

Okeeheelee Nature Center, operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, is offering a full slate educational programs throughout January designed to connect residents with South Florida’s native wildlife and natural landscapes.


Located in Okeeheelee Park at 7715 Forest Hill Boulevard, west of West Palm Beach, the nature center will continue its weekly Live Animal Feeding Presentations every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 3:30 p.m., along with Alligator Feedings on Saturdays at 1 p.m., all at no cost.

The month’s special programs begin Saturday, Jan. 3, with Archery for Beginners from 10 to 11:30 a.m., where participants ages 8 and up can learn proper safety and shooting techniques from USA Archery–certified instructors.


On Tuesday, Jan. 6, Okeeheelee Nature Center will take its animal ambassadors on the road for Animal Tracks at the Wellington Library, inviting families to become wildlife detectives by identifying animals by their footprints. The center will host the Palm Beach Pack & Paddle Club on Saturday, Jan. 10, for a free monthly meeting featuring guest speakers on nature and environmental topics.

Hands-on creativity and evening exploration follow later in the month, including Animal Art Adventures on Saturday, Jan. 17, where families can meet animal ambassadors and create wildlife-inspired art.


The Family Owl Prowl on Tuesday, Jan. 20, offers a guided sunset hike through pine flatwoods to observe nocturnal wildlife. The month concludes with a visit from the Palm Beach County Woodturners on Saturday, Jan. 24, when community members can learn about woodturning tools and techniques during the group’s free monthly meeting.
