Transition from spring to summer with the first Sunset Stroll of the season at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach on Thursday, April 18, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
With a fashion-based theme of “Harajuku meets Otaku,” the stroll offers a breathtaking twilight procession through the Roji-en: Garden of the Drops of Dew and the chance to experience the tranquility of the Yamato-Kan, the Morikami’s inaugural museum.
The event features the Sean Danconia Pop Surreal Art Show, personalized Japanese calligraphy name fan creations, guided tours of the gardens, samplings of Brewsake beer and Niigata Sake Selections, and Asian-inspired dishes from Ramen Lab Eatery, Kaminari Ramen, Kona Ice and the Cornell Cafe.
Adding to the energy are a taiko drumming display by Fushu Daiko and a fashion spectacle organized by OtakuFest. Harajuku fashion, a Tokyo street movement, is an artistic fusion intersecting with subgenres such as otaku, which embraces anime (Japanese cartoons) and manga (Japanese comic books).
