Walk a battlefield, shoot arrows and catch fish at Riverbend Park

Whether you’re interested in learning about Florida’s earliest settlers or looking to bike or canoe, Riverbend Park has something for you. The park is along the Loxahatchee River, Florida’s first nationally designated Wild and Scenic River, and has 5 miles of waterways and 15 miles of trails.


Park features include the Loxahatchee River Battlefield, the site of two battles during the Second Seminole War, and Old River Run, the site of an old military bridge built by Lt. Robert Anderson.


August is filled with many fun programs at Riverbend Park. To register, visit pbcparksregistration.co.palm-beach.fl or 561-741-1359. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants must sign a COVID-19 waiver. Please bring water, sunscreen and insect repellent.


Naturalist Walks

Thursdays, 9 a.m.

All ages; free

Enjoy a 1-hour guided trail walk and learn about plant and animal life and historic events.


Battlefield Tours

Saturdays, 10 a.m.

All ages; free

A battlefield preservationist leads a tour and teaches about the Second Seminole War battles.


Night Hike

Friday, Aug. 12, 7 p.m.

Ages 8 and up; $5 each

Take a moonlit walk led by a naturalist. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bug spray.


Birding Basics

Saturday, Aug. 13, 9:30 a.m.

Ages 8 and up; $5 each

Join a guided birdwatching walk and learn about the many roles birds play in the environment and how they have adapted. Guidebooks and binoculars are provided.


Archery 101

Saturday, Aug. 20, 9:30 a.m.

Ages 8 and up; $10 each

Led by USA Archery- and National Field Archery Association-certified staff, this program teaches the safety and use of archery equipment before getting to practice. All equipment is provided.


Open Range Archery

Saturday, Aug. 20, noon

Ages 8 and up; $10 each

This program is for archers who have attended at least two basic archery courses at Riverbend Park. USA Archery- and NFAA-certified staff help you master your archery skills with a variety of targets from different distances. All equipment is provided.


Fishing Fun

Saturday, Aug. 27, 9:30 a.m.

Ages 8 and up; $10 each

Learn the basics of fishing and important safety techniques, then put your lessons to practice. Bring outdoor clothing, water, sunscreen and sunglasses. All fishing gear is provided.
