Wellington Regional Medical Center has been recognized with the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus award, including the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll designations.
The awards highlight the hospital’s commitment to high-quality stroke care aligned with the most current, research-based treatment guidelines.
Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death and a major cause of serious long-term disability in the United States. It occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted either by a blockage or a burst blood vessel, resulting in the loss of oxygen and nutrient supply to brain cells. Rapid diagnosis and timely treatment are critical to improving patient outcomes and reducing long-term disability.
The Get With the Guidelines-Stroke program, developed by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, is designed to improve the quality of care for stroke patients by ensuring hospitals adhere to nationally accepted, evidence-based clinical guidelines. Hospitals in the program work to reduce delays in treatment and provide patients with education to support recovery.
“The Get With the Guidelines initiative supports our teams in applying evidence-based care on a daily basis,” Wellington Regional CEO Pam Tahan said. “Our goal is to help patients recover faster and lead longer, healthier lives.”
To earn the Gold Plus designation and Elite Plus status on the Stroke Honor Roll, hospitals must meet specific criteria over 24 months, including aggressive time targets for administering clot-dissolving treatments to eligible stroke patients. The Elite Plus designation is reserved for hospitals that consistently meet even more rigorous performance standards.
In addition to its stroke care achievements, Wellington Regional was recognized with the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award for the hospital’s efforts to provide optimal care for stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes, who are at higher risk for complications. The program supports hospitals in integrating diabetes management strategies into stroke protocols to improve patient outcomes.
These national recognitions reflect Wellington Regional Medical Center’s dedication to excellence in stroke care and chronic disease management. For more information about the hospital, visit wellingtonregional.com.
