The City of West Palm Beach is enhancing the holiday season by extending its Soul in the City Jazz Experience at the scenic Lake Pavilion at 101 S. Flagler Drive.
The concerts are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. on the third Wednesday of November and December, with general admission starting at $30 and table reservations available for $45. Tickets, which include popcorn, must be purchased in advance at wpb.org/jazz. Food and beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) will be available. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
“We continue to receive rave reviews about our Soul in the City Jazz Experience,” West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James said. “That’s why we are excited to extend this concert series for another season. Bringing top jazz performers to our beautiful Waterfront has made Soul in the City a tremendous success.”
The lineup:
Nov. 20 — “Tap Into Soul” With Solomon Jaye
Solomon Jaye blends soulful vocals and world-class tap dancing in “Tap Into Soul.” The show includes such classics as “I Feel Good” by James Brown, “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green, “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder and “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. Jaye’s dynamic show combines fast footwork with surprise instrumental solos.
Dec. 18 — “The Lady Ella Show”
The series concludes with “The Lady Ella Show,” featuring Nicci Canada. A native of Charleston, West Virginia, Canada has been surrounded by music her entire life. She uses her warm, sultry voice to pay homage to iconic vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone.
“Jazz lovers can look forward to an extra-festive holiday season with the extension of Soul in the City,” said Mary Pinak, the community events manager for the city. “These concerts offer an opportunity to experience some of the nation’s best jazz artists while enjoying the stunning view of the Intracoastal Waterway.”
